4th Annual Strides for Life

On Sunday, August 23rd, The Lung Cancer Research Foundation (LCRF) hosted the 4th Annual Strides for Life 3-mile fun run/walk around Lake Agawam in Southampton.

Despite the prospect of Hurricane Bill, a record 1,000 plus people turned out to enjoy the early morning sunshine and raise funds for critical lung cancer research. First time race participant, 26 year old lung cancer survivor Joey Smith cut the ribbon to start the race alongside the event’s Honorary Chair, supermodel and advocate, Christy Turlington Burns. The ever energetic Rosanna Scotto of Fox 5 news returned once again as emcee to kick off the race and cheer participants on.

Once the race began, Christy, Joey and 1,000 others hit the pavement to raise funds for a cure. Rosanna joined “Team Caryl” organized by the Wolkoff/Palin family in memory of Caryl Palin, her mother’s late best friend. Other teams participating in honor of friends and loved ones included “Team Hedi,” spearheaded by LCRF Vice President Kimberly Kravis Schulhof in memory of her mother, Hedi; the “Super Duper Striders”, “Buckheidt Brigade,” “Pops Pals” coordinated by the Kotin Family, “Deanne’s Team” organized by Strides for Life co-chair Lynne Tarnopol and Arthur Indursky and “Team Pat” organized by co-chair Nancy Hebert. Newcomers, “Team Heroy” of Westchester, “Team Anita” and “Team Sonia” of New York City, added to the positive, hopeful energy and team spirit throughout the morning.

As the largest Strides for Life to date, the race generated over $350,000 for The Lung Cancer Research Foundation, bringing the total amount raised since to inception to nearly 1.7 million that will fund innovative research for this deadly disease. The race’s co-chairs included LCRF Founder and President Laurie Cameron Carson, Kimberly Kravis Schulhof, Lynne Tarnopol, Nancy Hebert, and Wendy Routh.

Following the race, runners enjoyed refreshments donated by The Golden Pear and watched over 70 children participate in a 50-yard dash. Race participants included: LCRF Board Members Bill Carson, Denis Coleman, Jim Dougherty, and Pippa Gerard. Also, Tory Burch, Shoshanna Gruss, Josh Gruss, Christy Turlington Burns, Rosanna Scotto, Kingsley Carson, Eleanor Dejoux, Eleanor Ylvisaker, Christina Smith, Marisa Brown, Jacques and Anne Nordeman, Eliza P. Nordeman, Greg Inger, Landon and Shannon Nordeman, Michele Wolkoff, Steve and Kelly Mack, Jacqueline Sackler, Jon and Lizzie Tish and more.
