Ambassador Gérard Araud Hosts A Cocktail Reception for the French Heritage Society’s Gala Committee

On Wednesday, October 5th, Ambassador Gérard Araud, Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations, held a reception for French Heritage Society’s (FHS) Fall Gala Committee.

The Society’s 4th annual black tie dinner dance will be on November 16th at the Metropolitan Club. This year’s Gala will honor The Royal Families of Fontainebleau, which spans four centuries including the reigns of several monarchs and two emperors.
In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador Araud said, "People keep thanking me for hosting tonight and I don't know why because I am thanking you. I am indebted to the French Heritage Society for all you do for France and the buildings that represent us here. I love living here. In fact I'm from Provence, but find when I go back there that New Yorkers are more polite than the French."
FHS Chairman Elizabeth Stribling, who followed the Ambassador countered, "I'm a great friend of France, and the French, and I have to disagree with the Ambassador. Coming from the South, I find that the French have a grand sense of manners, an appreciation of the past, of their land, of their people and I feel very at home there."
Cece Black, one of the Gala’s co-chairs said, "I'd like to first thank my female co-chairs, Margaret Langenberg, Jean Shafiroff and Mitzi Purdue." She continued, "There will be quite a few exciting surprises at the gala this year. We have Baroque dancers, along with a few other surprises that will hopefully make the evening well worthwhile."
The Gala will be under the high patronage of His Excellency François Delattre, Ambassador of France to the U.S.; Ambassador Gérard Araud, Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations and Mr. Philippe Lalliot, Consul General of France in New York. FHS Chairman Elizabeth Stribling, FHS President Comte Denis de Kergorlay and other French and American notables will be present.
The Ambassador’s art filled residence brought a selection of Francophiles and committee members including: Odille de Schletere-Longchamp, Guy Robinson, Victoria Wyman, Geoffrey Bradfield, Barbara de Portago, Lee Black, Noreen and George Peck, Ann Rapp, Larry Kaiser, Patricia and Thomas Shiah, Kate and Robert Wickham, Rosanne Loesch, Roy Kean, Roberta Sandeman, Roric Tobin, Frances and Bill Bruder, Kate Edmonds and Alex Donner, Terresa and Richard Snyder, Annabelle Mariaca, Pascal Le Coz, Arlene Dahl and Marc Rosen, Ann and Arnold Jurdem, Countess Bianchi, Christian Draz, Marjorie Reed Gordon and Ellery Gordon, Count De Vienne and FHS’s Greg Joye, Meri Horn and Natalie Nachimson.
