American India Foundation New York Young Professionals Third Annual Benefit

The American India Foundation (AIF) celebrated its first William J. Clinton Fellowship for Service in India Alumni Gathering.

IF, a nonprofit development organization that is devoted to accelerating social and economic change in India, began the William J. Clinton Fellowship for Service in India program to build bridges between America and India by sending talented and skilled young Americans to work with leading non-governmental organizations in India for a period of 10 months. The program serves as an exchange of technical skills and intellectual resources which aims to build the capacity of Indian NGOs while developing American leaders with an understanding of India. The fellowship was born from the high level of interest expressed by young Americans to assist in the post-earthquake rehabilitation of Gujarat in 2001. Beginning with a pilot class of 21 Fellows in 2001, the program has now sent 169 Fellows to 74 organizations throughout India.

The small affair was hosted in New York City by the Moore Brothers Wine Company, an organic wine store. The starkness of the surroundings was illuminated by the rich wines from Northern Italy and Southern France. Host, David Moore, selected wines that seem to bridge the space between the palette and the spicy Indian food donated by Santoor Restaurant. The Clinton Fellows Alumni enjoyed a night of memories as well as music by sitar player, Jared Hansen. A few key sponsors were invited so that they may further understand the mission of AIF through the lens of the Fellows. Sanjay Sinho (AIF CEO) and Anjali Sharma (Sr. Philanthropy Advisor) and other AIF members and staff including Deven Sharma (S&P CEO) and Chandrika Tandon (Tandon Capital Associates) welcomed the Fellows back to their family…AIF. Organizer, Thomas Yohannan, believes that “this event was an excellent step in involving the Fellowship alumni in New York City to the organization”.
