Autism Speaks Third Annual Celebrity Chef Gala

Third Annual Celebrity Chef Gala Raises over $1.15 Million

Third Annual Celebrity Chef Gala was held on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 and raised over $1.15 million in support of Autism Speaks. A percentage of the proceeds will benefit one of New York City's largest schools for autism – the McCarton School. The event was held at Cipriani Wall Street, in the heart of New York City's Financial District.

Guests were treated to the gastronomic expertise of some of the country's biggest culinary talents, including such renowned names as Tom Colicchio (Craft Restaurants); Eric Ripert (Le Bernadin); Franklin Becker (Abe & Arthur's); Masaharu Morimoto (MORIMOTO); and Terrance Brennan (Artisanal & Picholine).

The evening was hosted by Executive Chef and Co-Owner of Le Bernardin Eric Ripert and CNBC Squawk on the Street and Street Signs Anchor Erin Burnett and featured a special musical performance by musical savant Rex Lewis-Clack, a teenager who lives with the challenges of blindness and autism. The event included a live auction featuring one of a kind culinary and vacation packages as well as an impromptu auction package donated and auctioned off by famed Chicago chef and restaurant owner, Charlie Trotter. Guests were also able to support “Fund a Cure,” a bidding event which raised funds to provide Autism Speaks 100 Day Kits to newly diagnosed families. The event was co-chaired by Jennifer & Franklin Becker, Susan & Philip Harris, Susan & Kevin Murray, Alison & Duncan Niederauer and Autism Speaks Co-founders Suzanne & Bob Wright.
