Be A Star Foundation's 7th Annual Holiday Party & Fundraiser
12/04/2010 - By North Palm Beach, FL

Sand and peach were the gorgeous colors highlighting the theme Holiday Party by the Sea, the Be A Star Foundation’s 7th annual fundraiser.

Children’s cancer crusader and Be A Star Foundation president, Julie Healey once again opened up the doors of her magnificent ocean front mansion to her guests on the 4th of December, 2010 to experience the joy and fun of a beach and ocean fantasy while at the same time raising well over $450 000.00 for the family’s foundation.

The gala was hosted under white tents that flowed from the house and was decked in beautiful items of ocean and beach décor. These included starfish, coral and a variety of exquisite shells. Guests enjoyed a sumptuous buffet while enjoying the music of a pianist/vocalist, guitarist, and saxophonist. Once again The Capital Grille served their infamous Stoli Doli cocktails, Cheney Brothers, Inc. graciously donated all the food, and Brio Tuscan Grille served a few of their signature appetizers. Ron Woods/Palm Beach Illustrated Magazine was, once again, the exclusive Magazine Sponsor.

T is for Table donated and outfitted the $15,000 V.V.I.S. (Very, Very Important Star) table, with exquisite table settings and décor for 10 guests, which was purchased by prominent law firm Steinger, Iscoe and Greene who were then given all the table settings to keep. The evening included a silent auction featuring luxury items which provided many hours of enthusiastic bidding. Top auction items included golf memorabilia and a variety of trips to both Tobago and one where guests could pick from Anguilla, Telluride or Florence. Guests also had an opportunity to win a diamond donated by Raymond Lee Jewelers, by purchasing Starfish ornaments handmade by the children of the Benjamin School.

The annual gala, which is now in its seventh year was created by the Healey family, who after experiencing the devastating illness of their young daughter Daisy to leukemia, and witnessing the effect it had on the families of children with cancer, decided to give back to the community by helping support children and their families cope with impact of diagnosis, treatment and recovery from cancer. The family turned their annual holiday party for friends and family into a successful fundraiser.

Julie Healey explains, “I know we are in an economic downturn but cancer in children does not go away. It is an ongoing heartache for families and it is especially in these tough times that families need help more than ever in dealing with day to day living expenses.”

A definite highlight of the gala was special guest Gabby, a 14 year old who has been battling cancer half her life. Because of Be A Star, the family has been able to financially stay afloat and have had counseling assistance during treatment through POST. Guests had the privilege to meet this special lady and, she had the special honor of drawing the raffle winners which included an Infiniti convertible donated by Schumacher Automotive.
