01/30/2009 - By Canal Room

Benefit Concert for the Worldwide Orphans Foundation

Christina Gagliardo, a resident in Pediatrics at Cornell brought together various friends to play a benefit concert for the Worldwide Orphans Foundation at the Canal Room on January 30th.

Headliner Val Emmich, who also has a recurring role on Ugly Betty as musician Jesse, had the entire venue up and dancing to songs from his latest album, "Little Daggers." The opening acts sounded incredible and included Zach Macko who brought in special guest Stacie Orrico, and April Smith and the Great Picture Show. The event raised over $3000 for WWO. Founded in 1997 by renowned adoption medicine physician, Dr. Jane Aronson, WWO's mission is to transform the lives of orphaned children by providing medical, educational and developmental care and services. WWO currently serves children in Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Ethiopia,
Serbia and Vietnam. From groundbreaking treatment of orphans with HIV/AIDS, to innovative programs including the WWO primary school and family health clinics, WWO is committed to reaching as many children as possible. Attendees at the show ranged from Val Emmich fans to people who have adopted orphans themselves. Members of the band "The Fray" were also in the audience. The event was a huge success in promoting awareness about and raising money for WWO.
