Boys Town New York Young Leadership Committee Background

The Croton event was a huge success!

With close to 100 people in attendance. Boys Town New York gave a presentation about their programs and services to help troubled youth rebuild their lives which included a video featuring some real success stories such as one about a girl from an incredibly difficult set of circumstances and who had been in trouble with the law, who was now going off to college. Our Interim Executive Director, Zankhana Shukla; Board Chair Robert Rigby-Hall; and Committee Chair Dana Moskowitz addressed the crowd, as well. The raffle included tickets to our upcoming Building Hope Gala on November 12th, premier Knicks tickets and a fantastic dinner at Country restaurant. Let me know if you need anything else.

Background

Boys Town New York provides life-changing care to at-risk youth with serious problems. It has one of the most successful track records for helping adolescents based on a continuum of care that strengthens them in mind, body and spirit. The Boys Town mission is simple - children need love, guidance, life skills, and education if they are to become productive citizens. For over 90 years, Boys Town has provided this through the care and services of experienced professionals offered in a homelike atmosphere.

In 2008, 444 boys and girls received help through Boys Town New York’s Long- and Short-Term Residential Services. These children also attend the Boys Town New York Alternative School where certified teachers and Boys Town staff partner to provide students with a positive, structured, mainstream-learning environment. In addition, over 100,000 children and families in the greater New York area are assisted annually through the Boys Town National Hotline.

The Young Leadership Committee was formed by a group of young professionals who were touched by Boys Town’s cause and acknowledged a need to build greater awareness of Boys Town in New York City, especially amongst their peers. Today, with resources on the decline and struggling families facing greater challenges, the Young Leadership Committee recognizes that the needs of these children are even greater. Proceeds from tonight’s September Social will help support life-changing services to children and families, as well as the costs of clothing, feeding and providing them with all they need to become productive citizens.
