Catholic Charities New York Annual Gala

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York raised more than $1.8 million at its Second Annual Gala Benefit in the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf=Astoria on Thursday, May 26th.

Underwriting support by the Catholic Charities Board of Trustees ensured that all funds raised will go towards the human services Catholic Charities provides New Yorkers in need—Catholic and non Catholic—throughout the ten counties of the Archdiocese.

Archbishop Timothy Dolan presented the Deus Caritas Est awards to Gala honorees Roger C. Altman, Founder and Chairman of Evercore Partners, and H. Rodgin Cohen, Senior Chairman of Sullivan & Cromwell LLP. Sister Margaret John Kelly, DC, a vice chair of the Catholic Charities Board of Trustees and executive director of the Vincentian Center at St. John’s University, led the gathering in a prayerful Invocation. Monsignor Kevin Sullivan, executive director of Catholic Charities, expressed his gratitude to the guests for their generous support and ongoing commitment and described the increasing needs of families and individuals.

More than 600 guests enjoyed an evening of fine dining and entertainment that included moving tributes for the work of Catholic Charities in song by vocalist Linda Eder. Pat Battle, co-anchor for Weekend Today in NY on NBC4, was the evening’s emcee.

The co-chairs of the Catholic Charities Gala Benefit were BNY Mellon, Castle Harlan, Inc., Jones Day, Tara and Victor Menezes Mr. And Mrs. John J. Phelan, Jr., Popular, Inc., Susan and Thomas Salice, and Sullivan & Cromwell LLP.

Catholic Charities, a federation of approximately 90 agencies and programs located throughout the 10 counties of the Archdiocese of New York, helps solve the problems of New Yorkers in need – non-Catholics and Catholics alike, with services that protect and nurture children; resolve family crises; assist the hungry and homeless; support the physically and emotionally challenged; and integrate immigrants and refugees.
