Haiti Rebirth Charity Brunch

On Saturday, May 15th more than 150 New York City professionals joined forces to raise awareness and funds at the Haiti Rebirth Charity Brunch, an event to benefit Habitat for Humanity International.

The event organized by Margaret Bouhairie-Martinez, Sir Charles Hill, Latoya A. Henry and an elite group of Host Committee members was held at the Columbia University Faculty House in the Presidential Ballroom.

The event raised nearly $20,000 with the proceeds of the event going to Habitat for Humanity’s Haiti relief efforts.

An art and silent auction reception that preceded the brunch was curated by KiptonArt.com and featured donations from KiptonArt artists along with artwork done by Haitian children provided by Life for the World to support the rebuilding of the Maranatha Orphanage and School. During the silent auction reception, guests were also treated to auction items from New York Yankee, Derek Jeter who donated an autographed photo and baseball. Raffle prizes were provided by Dr. Miracle, Lancome and B Marie Style.

The brunch, held in the Presidential Ballroom, was emceed by Anchor and Reporter DeMarco Morgan, WNBC4 New York. And, a panel discussion was moderated by Essence Magazine’s Demetria L. Lucas. The panel was comprised of experts in a variety of fields who explored issues related to the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake. Guests of the event enjoyed authentic Haitian cuisine.

During the program, up-and-coming artist Joya Bravo, wowed guests with her soulful singing and talent on the violin. Additionally, Ase Dance Theatre Collective, closed out the event with two dance performances that received standing ovations.
