Images of LOVE benefit

The Images of LOVE event to benefit LOVE, US (Leave Out Violence) was a wonderful evening that raised $117,000 to help pay for sending youth to the LOVE Leadership Camp this summer.

LOVE was founded by an incredible woman named Twinkle Rudberg. In 1972, her husband was stabbed to death while trying to help a woman who was being attacked for her purse. To further compound the senselessness of this act, the attacker was a 14 year old boy– who was both homeless and under the influence of drugs. In response to this tragedy, Twinkle decided something had to be done to help troubled youth like this lost teenager. She wanted to create an organization that would identify and focus on the causes of teen violence – neglect, isolation, lack of mentorship and domestic abuse. Fourteen years ago, she created LOVE, which has since grown exponentially.



This is the second year that Tom Moran, the CEO of Mutual of America, has donated their magnificent space to LOVE for the Images of LOVE event. Craig Treadway, a morning anchor from the CW11 served as the events emcee. Willie Geist, co-anchor of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” and co-host of MSNBC’s “Way Too Early with Willie Geist” was the auctioneer, auctioning off beautiful photographers from artists including William Wegman, Patrick Harbron’s iconic image of Bruce Springsteen and May Pang’s legendary John Lennon photo from her personal collection published in her new book “Instamatic Karma.” The honorees of the evening were the Schiffmans, Ron and Cheryl and their daughter Lindsey, whose daughter Nicole Schiffman was murdered two years ago by a young man while visiting the University of Arizona. The Schiffman’s have become involved with LOVE so that they can help prevent other young adults from killing and causing the pain that they are experiencing with the loss of their daughter.

Pianist Jay Israelson provided music for the evening, while many of LOVE’s “Artists in LOVE” were in attendance. The group is a committee of veritable artists – painters, musicians, actors, photographers, and designers – headed up by Erin Krause. Also on the committee are Mickey Sumner, Ariel and Yaniv Schulman, Henry Joost, Zac Stewart-Pointer, Carlton DeWoody, and Justin Theroux. Sting and Trudie Styler attended the fete and donated a pair of tickets and backstage passes to attend Sting’s upcoming concert in New York as well as a gift basket of Trudie’s yoga tapes and a selection of delicacies produced at their villa in Tuscany.
