Indego Africa's NYC Ibirori Gala

Indego Africa's NYC Ibirori Gala

An enthusiastic crowd gathered this past Friday, for Indego Africa’s Annual NYC Ibirori Gala! With the help of our NYC Regional Board, over 150 people assembled at La Pomme NYC for a great night of food, dancing, and fun.

Coveted gifts were auctioned including a personal styling session with Nicole Miller, two tickets to a live taping of Regis and Kelly and a billboard in Times Square. From the charitable bids collected, in conjunction with a handful of generous donations, Indego Africa was able to reach gross proceeds nearing $21,000!!

To add to the excitement, Matt officially launched our TRIPLE THE IMPACT INITIATIVE. Since 2007, Indego Africa’s co-op partnerships have engendered profound social impact, including income growth and much higher quality-of-life satisfaction. Concurrently, Indego Africa’s training programs diversify job skills and improve management skills at the co-ops – transforming them into business models for entrepreneurial women. By January 1, Indego Africa intends to raise $40,000 to triple the number of artisan women with whom it partners through the addition of five full partner co-ops. Funding will be spent on new trainers, co-op infrastructure and workplace improvements, and training materials in business management and quality control. Help contribute at indegoafrica.org/tripleimpact!

Also at Friday's Ibirori Gala, Indego Africa was proud to premiere a video message from Emelienne Nyiramana, founder of Cocoki cooperative (view the inspiring video HERE!). Before partnering with Indego Africa, Emelienne and her colleagues made less than 25 cents and now they run a high-profile, transparent business partnering with major retail outlets. In July 2010, Emelienne was accepted into the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women Initiative Entrepreneurship Program in Rwanda.
