LADACIN Polar Bear Plunge
01/22/2010 - By Wanamassa, NJ

LADACIN Polar Bear Plunge

150 brave supporters took the plunge into the frigid waters of the Atlantic in January at Manasquan’s Main Beach to raise awareness and funds for LADACIN Network.

Over $80,000 was raised to benefit LADACIN’s programs and services.

Leggett’s Sand Bar and Restaurant, Manasquan, hosted The Polar Bear Plunge 2010 on Saturday, January 16th at 10:30 am. Mary Ann and Bob Keller of Alexandria, VA, were the Event Sponsors.

LADACIN provides a comprehensive array of lifetime programs and services for over 2,800 infants, children and adults with cerebral palsy and other physical disabilities and their families in Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

Russell coordinated the first Polar Bear Plunge last March to support the J. Michael Hartnett Memorial Fund, which benefits the Agency and honors the memory of his late uncle. Russell was also inspired by his admiration for his cousin, Elizabeth “Liz” Hartnett, a client of LADACIN Network. Russell says Liz has not allowed her physical limitations to prevent her from living life to the fullest. “Liz has accomplished more from her wheelchair than most others with no physical challenges. For that and many other reasons, she continues to be my personal hero”.

The J. Michael Hartnett Memorial Fund serves as an enduring tribute to Mr. Hartnett, who was associated with the agency as a parent and dynamic Board member for 28 years before he passed away in 2000.

95.9 WRAT, a longtime LADACIN Network supporter and Corporate Platinum Guardian Sponsor, broadcasted from the event.

Participants were encouraged to come in costume, adding a festive element to the event. Prizes were awarded for the most creative team costumes. The “Penguin Team” took first place honors, with “The Vikings” taking a close second. Guests of honor included Mrs. New Jersey, ____Ceylon Boothe-Grooms, and Howard Cross, former New York Giants tight end and TV sports co-host.
