*MOVE: A Benefit for CARE*

*MOVE: A Benefit for CARE*

On May 1, 2009, Young Professionals for CARE made an impact in the fight to end global poverty through *MOVE: A Benefit for CARE*, hosted at Pink Elephant in New York.

The event was a huge success, raising over $45,300 for CARE and drawing more than 425 guests who mixed, mingled, and danced to music spun by DJ Shaun Pazel. Guests also enjoyed an open bar of beverages sponsored by Absolut Vodka, Peroni Beer, Diageo Spirits, and Redwood Creek Wines, and competed for coveted raffle prizes from sponsors including Bumble and Bumble, the Manhattan Theater Club, Bobbi Brown, and Bowlmor Lanes.

Most importantly, everyone who attended the event or made a contribution learned about and supported the work of CARE, a leading humanitarian organization addressing the root causes of poverty in 66 countries around the world.

The success of *MOVE: A Benefit for CARE* was the result of outreach by members of the Young Professionals for CARE, an advocacy group composed entirely of volunteers dedicated to supporting CARE’s mission to end global poverty. Event Committee members gained the support of friends, colleagues, and family members to secure donations from over 393 individuals and twenty-seven corporate sponsors. They also contributed their own talent and time to create a stylish event and to secure donated goods and services so that the maximum amount of revenue was donated to CARE. From the young professionals of Spil Creative who donated their talent to design a compelling interactive invitation website to those who called on friends to secure donated beverages for the open bar, dozens of young people worked together to create a night that everyone will remember!

In this way, young professionals who individually may not have had the capacity to donate more to CARE than the $55 basic ticket price generated thousands of dollars in contributions to CARE and raised awareness about CARE’s work. Young Professionals for CARE has shown that even in the current economic climate, young people have the power, the passion, and the ability to make an impact in the fight to end global poverty.
