Jill Dienst, a trustee of the New York School of Interior Design, hosted a kick off-reception for the New York School of Interior Design’s Annual Spring Benefit, at her stunning new Lafayette Street gallery, Dienst+Dotter.

This year’s benefit, on April 18 at the Metropolitan Club, will honor Jack Lenor Larsen with a Lifetime Achievement Award and Thomas Woltz with the first Thomas N. Armstrong III Award in Landscape Design. The late Thomas Armstrong, also a trustee of the school, was a devoted garden enthusiast.

Jack Lenor Larsen, the iconic internationally acclaimed textile designer, known for innovative hand-woven fabrics and wallpapers, available through Cowtan & Tout, is also recognized for LongHouse, his spectacular 13,000 square-foot four-level home, located on 16 acres in East Hampton, New York. The building is raised on stilts and the spaces are divided by fabric sliding panels, which showcase Larsen's fabrics and his collection of historical and contemporary crafts, including works by Lucie Rie, Wharton Esherick, Edward Wormley, and a glass chandelier by Dale Chihuly. The gardens present the designed landscape as an art form and offer a diversity of sites for the sculpture installations by such luminaries as Yoko Ono, Sol LeWitt, and Willem de Kooning.

Thomas Woltz, is the owner of Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects. He has led designs of a broad range of institutional projects in the United States and abroad including The Peggy Guggenheim Sculpture Garden in Venice, Italy, The McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia, Round Hill, Jamaica, the National Arboretum of New Zealand and a Master Plan for the conservation of 42,000 acres of Catalina Island off the coast of Los Angeles. He has also led design work on private gardens and farmland in a dozen states and New Zealand. Contemporary design applied to restoration ecology is at the heart of the Conservation Agriculture Studio and has yielded hundreds of acres of reconstructed wetlands, reforestation, native meadow establishment, soil and water conservation and flourishing wildlife habitat.

Seen in the crowd were Jack Lenor Larsen, Thomas Woltz, Martha Stewart, Mario Buatta, Campion Platt, Ellie Cullman, Philip Gorrivan, Paul Siskin, Steven Gambrel and James Anderson, Juan Montoya, Donna Hoffer-Landsman, Daniel Dienst, David Matlin, Wendy Moonan, Carolyn Rowan, Eric Pike and Stephan Steil, Kevin Sharkey, Barbara Dixon, Dennis Rolland, Nancy and Jim Druckman, Miry Park, Amory Armstrong, Whitney Armstrong, Michael and Patricia Sovern, Elliot and Janet Greene, Ross Francis, Anne Korman, Betsey Ruprecht, Charlotte Barnes, Stephanie Odegard, Chris Jussel, Mary Ellen and Richard Oldenburg, Scott Sanders, Jennifer Rock, David Scott, Jen Watty, Michael Valente, Lori and Jeff Schwartz, David Sprouls, Ellen Hamilton, Susan Zises Green, Michael Boodro, John Danzer, Judith Gura, Donna Hoffer-Landsman and Eleanor and Arthur Hoffer. www.nysid.edu
