Newport Preservation Society Ball

Authentic 19th century coaches drawn by matched and highly-trained teams of horses returned to Newport from August 20-23, 2009, in the triennial renewal of a Weekend of Coaching, hosted by

and benefiting The Preservation Society of Newport County. Approximately a dozen coaching teams came to Newport from around the country creating a beautiful sight throughout the streets of Newport.

The weekend culminated with a formal Coaching Dinner Dance at the stunning Breakers mansion Saturday evening. Guests from all over the world enjoyed a fabulous evening of cocktails, dinner, and dancing against a backdrop of crashing waves courtesy of Hurricane Bill. Chairs for the evening were Gladys Szápáry, Lynda Lindh and Diana Prince. Among the 500 notable guests were Trudy Coxe, CEO of the Newport Preservation Society, her husband Jim Gaffney, David Lindh, the chair for the Coaching Weekend, and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Piancone. Mr. Piancone is the President of the Coaching Club.
