Peace Market for Seeds of Peace
02/20/2009 - By Cipriani Wall Street in New York City

Peace Market for Seeds of Peace

Ivanka Trump last night hosted the ‘Peace Market’ for Seeds of Peace (www.seedsofpeace.org) at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.

The event brought together nearly 900 New York celebrities and community leaders to support Seeds of Peace programs that bring together young people from opposite sides of conflict to empower them as peacemakers of the future. Celebrity attendees included Zach Gilford (actor, Friday Night Lights), Laura Breckenridge (actor, Gossip Girls), Yin Chang (actor, Gossip Girls), Amanda Setton (actor, Gossip Girls), Dreama Walker (actor, Gossip Girls), Nicole Fiscella (actor, Gossip Girls), Brandon Short (NFL Player, New York Giants), Tim Morehouse (U.S Olympic Silver medalist) and Jason Rogers (U.S Olympic Silver medalist). Pakistani rock star Adeel Chaudhry performed several hit numbers, electrifying the stage with music and dancing.

Highlights of the evening were speeches delivered by Afghan, Pakistani, Israeli, Palestinian and Egyptian graduates of Seeds of Peace. Afghan Seed, Mujib Mashal, described the daunting task of facing his peers after returning home from camp: “Somehow, we will have to meet the challenges of a country that badly needs social healing, and a world where peace, prosperity and security are directly linked to a stable and productive Afghanistan. Seeds of Peace provides an opportunity for young people to meet these important challenges.” Warda Khan, a Pakistani Seed, spoke of her horror at the December 2008 attacks in Mumbai, noting “Seeds of Peace taught me that we are different in terms of religion, nationality and ethnicity, but before all these divisions we know we are human beings and can relate to each other on that level. That is Seeds of Peace.”

Israeli Seed Nadav Greenberg declared that, “the ability to take the conflicts that tear our people apart and make them into the very thing that brings us closer together is what makes Seeds of Peace a community that is truly like no other.” And Palestinian Seed Kareen Uri echoed his sentiment, saying that “Seeds of Peace allowed me to express my thoughts to people I thought would never understand. I now know that the things I learned all my life do not necessarily have to be the things I believe for the rest of my life.”

A raffle and live auction enlivened the evening, with lucky guests winning diamonds, a golf vacation in Ireland, a weekend escape in Atlantic City, and VIP tickets to the Grammy Awards and NCAA Final Four Tournament. All proceeds went to support the Seeds of Peace International Camp in Otisfield, Maine and programs in the Middle East and South Asia.

Seeds of Peace is dedicated to empowering young leaders from regions of conflict with the leadership skills required to advance reconciliation and coexistence. For more information about Seeds of Peace please call 212.573.8040 or visit www.seedsofpeace.org.
