PROJECT MORRY’S 13TH ANNUAL AUTUMN ELEGANCE GALA HONORS HENRY LOUIS GATES, JR.

On November 19, 2009, Project Morry held the 13th Annual Autumn Elegance Gala at The Lighthouse on Pier 61 at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan. Over 300 Partygoers enjoyed an evening of festivities that included a silent auction, dinner and awards presentation to benefit Project Morry. Project Morry is a nonprofit, year-round youth development organization dedicated to giving inner-city children from New York and Connecticut life-enhancing learning opportunities through a curriculum based on school meetings and an intensive summer camp program.

This year, The Morry Award was presented to Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Harvard University professor and one of Time ’s 25 Most Influential People, in recognition of his lifelong commitment to education. magazine
“I am honored that Project Morry has selected me as the Morry Award recipient this year. Project Morry’s mission to create enriching educational experiences for inner-city children is one I support wholeheartedly. Education is the best path we have to success and achievement, and Project Morry is at the forefront of making the dream of education a reality for so many children. It is indeed an honor to be recognized by an organization whose work I admire so deeply,” said Dr. Gates. The gala was co-chaired by Ellen Kisner and Michelle Coleman with vice-chairs Elizabeth Gates and Justin Ibrahim. Additional support for the Gala was provided by Ruby Leaders, Mindy and Jay Jacobs and Emily and Tony Stein, as well as Platinum Leaders, Donna Levien Memorial Fund in the Long Island Community Foundation, Amy Medine Stein and HBO.

Project Morry allows children to benefit from a network of support and gain increased social skills, enhanced self-esteem, positive core values and a greater sense of personal responsibility. Project Morry is named in honor of Morry Stein, whose life was dedicated to the enrichment of children’s lives through the residential camp experience.
