On Monday, April 2nd Strokes of Genius celebrated their 2nd Annual Benefit at 100 United Nations Plaza.

The evening hosted an extraordinary art exhibition and reception in support of Strokes of Genius mission to empower individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders ASD and to "Train The Talent℠. Strokes of Genius will soon be providing educational art studio experiences and workshops to “Train the Talent” ℠ of young students with ASD within an art studio experience to guide and support students through the creative process encouraging motivation, choice, and problem solving.
“The emphasis will be on students learning in the visual arts by identifying and establishing their existing artistic repertoire and expanding it over time by introducing new subject matter, art materials, and art related vocabulary. Students explore different sensory properties of art materials, allowing their unique visual voices to be expressed in drawing, painting, collage, and construction.” Dr. Gillian Furniss

Dr. Rosa C. Martinez (President) and Stuart Flaum (Vice President) of SOG awarded artists Trent Altman and Seth Chwast trophies for their achievements and winning designs for the United Nations World Autism Awareness Stamp for 2012. A highpoint to the evening were the speeches made by 16 year old Amanda LaMunyon and 14 year old Paloma Kalisch who paid tribute to their parents for supporting their artistic endeavors. On behalf of Dr. Temple Grandin awards were presented to the pioneering parents of Strokes of Genius artists who have nurtured and supported an artistic journey for their sons and daughters. Strokes of Genius has been helping artists for the past 6 years by providing opportunities for individual artist exposure through publications, radio, television, documentaries and exhibitions.

“Strokes of Genius celebrates the brilliant artwork of people on the autism spectrum. It provides an important venue where the public can learn about the artistic abilities of these individuals.” Temple Grandin , author Thinking in Pictures
A special thank you was extended to Dr. Cece McCarton and the National Autism Association NY Metro Chapter for their support to Strokes of Genius, Train The Talent ℠.
“In 2008 I took on a role as “collections curator” to display the incredible artworks created by some individuals with autism. The mission was to create awareness of the abilities within those classified as “dis-abled”. Based on the teachings of the most highly recognized adult with autism in the world “Dr. Temple Grandin”; Strokes of Genius, Inc. has been conceived to “Train The Talent”. The concept is to expand our understanding of the diversity of people on the autism spectrum while educating the world about the abilities and opportunities to encourage advancement in every human beyond their individual challenges. Participating artists share their contributions with the world as an extension of this message to “train the talent” and to foster independence.”Don’t ‘dis’ ability!” Dr. Rosa C. Martinez
