On Tuesday, September 28, 2010, an evening that included a jazz concert, champagne cocktails and a gourmet feast, the Russian National Orchestra (RNO) celebrated its 20th Anniversary with events around the world, went to Greenwich, Connecticut.

The event dubbed, “Take Five,” was celebrated at Richards of Greenwich, the stylish clothing store that was transformed into a concert hall for the evening.
Marianne Wyman, a co-chair of the event presented the Russian Arts Foundation’s prestigious Silver Baton Award to Chris Brubeck who accepted on behalf of his father who will be 90 in December.
The concert artists included RNO’s principal flute Maxim Rubtsov and principal trumpet Vladislav Lavrik, who is Russia’s finest trumpet player. From the Brubeck Brothers Quartet there was Chris and Dan Brubeck (sons of the honoree), with pianist Chuck Lamb.
In an evening full of high notes, it’s difficult to pick the best. Before the artists played Claude Bolling’s Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano, Chris Brubeck said, “If imitation is a sincere form of flattery, my father is flattered. But, it was Dave Brubeck’s Blue Rondo a la Turk and Take Five that sent the guests on a rocket to bliss.
Among the guests, chairmen and committee members were Scott Mitchell, Bim Kendall, Catherine Brubeck and Arne Yaghsazian, Rita Mehos, John Wyman, Anne Perlin, Irene and Michael Ioffe, Elizabeth Stribling, Bob Pape, Trish Brubeck, Jonathan Moffley, Tatiana Panchenkova, Anita Torizzo, Barbara Roach, Chef Jean Louis and Peter Paul, who provided the wine and champagne.
Proceeds from "Take Five" will be split between Jazz’d 4 Life, an organization that helps children and the RNO Instrument Acquisition Program, which provides the instruments to the orchestra.
