The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's annual Light The Night Awards Party

At the annual Light The Night Awards Party held on Thursday, February 4 at New World Stages, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) honored the top fundraisers who braved wind and rain to raise funds to help battle blood cancer.

Michael C. Fina, a luxury goods retailer and leading provider of global employee recognition solutions, raised more than $192,000 to claim top honors for the New York City Chapter, while international financial services group Credit Suisse and international investment bank Barclays Capital raised $121,022 and $100,046 respectively.

Light The Night Walk is an annual LLS event that raises funds for cures. It’s New York City’s night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of patients and their families battling cancer. The New York City walks, attended by more than 10,000 participants, yielded more than $2.4 million in personal and corporate donations in 2009.

“The Light the Night Awards Party is our way of thanking all the participants for their tireless efforts in raising awareness for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission. We are incredibly grateful to have such tremendous support and devotion from our Corporate and Friends & Family teams,” said Michael Osso, Executive Director of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, NYC Chapter. “This year, the NYC Chapter has the privilege of holding the top spots for corporate fundraisers, as well as the top individual walker nationally. Last night, Michael C. Fina graciously awarded Light The Night’s highest individual fundraiser in the country and lymphoma survivor, Lance M. Meyerowich, with a pair of diamond studs for raising over $114,811.”

“This is an important and deeply personal cause for our company,” said Jeffrey Fina, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Innovation at Michael C. Fina, whose father and company executive Charles Fina lost his battle with leukemia in May. “We’re honored and humbled by the support shown by our employees, our business associates and our friends who, in honor of my dad and others affected by blood cancers, donated time and money to help fight these devastating diseases. We’re proud to be a national supporting sponsor of Light The Night, and pledge to add to the nearly $400,000 we’ve raised in our last three years of participation until there’s a cure.”
