The Wellness Community's 13th Annual Celebrate Wellness

The Wellness Community’s Garden Party Makes the Mark

The Wellness Community–South Bay Cities (TWC-SBC) hosted their 13th annual Celebrate Wellness event on Sunday at the South Coast Botanic Garden in Palos Verdes. Warm and humid temperatures in the low 90’s didn’t seem to distract many of the 535 guests who enjoyed the late afternoon garden party and departed in great spirits and well nourished. The ideal weather “was ordered a year in advance” said Special Events Coordinator, Jeannie Schmidt. Restaurants, wineries and breweries were well stocked and ready to serve up their tempting treats. The event generated $108,000, which will help fund group support programs for cancer patients and their loved ones. Also in attendance were Harriet Benjamin, wife of TWC (deceased) founder Harold Benjamin, and their daughter Ann Benjamin, as well as co-founders, Jean McMillan, Elise Asch, Tom Simko, MD, and founding therapist, Anne Clary, MFT. Steve Napolitano, Field Deputy to L.A. County Supervisor Don Knabe, surprised TWC Executive Director Judith Opdahl with a special commendation for her 15 years of dedicated leadership, which is a record. Judith expressed gratitude “. . .To our many sponsors for their benevolence and support, as it allows us to continue providing free group support programs throughout the South Bay and surrounding communities.” For more information about TWC’s programs call (310) 376-3550, or visit the website at www.wellnessandcancer.org.
