Youth Matter Inc.'s 10th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration

Miss America 2010 Caressa Cameron was the Mistress of Ceremonies at Youth Matter Inc.'s 10th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration held on January 17, 2011 in celebration of life and legacy of Dr. King.

The free public event was attended by over 500 people where the youth performances left everyone inspired and encouraged all beyond belief. The 3-part program included an Oratorical Contest were elementary, middle, high school students, and college students presented original speeches; 25 President’s Volunteer Service Awards were presented to youth and adults; and four "PEACE" Postage Stamp Design awards were presented to elementary school students who paid tribute to Dr. King’s eldest daughter Yolanda King.

There was entertainment from youth in the areas of dance, song, poetry, and music. Local Entertainment included performances by vocalists Taylor Burrell, Andolyn Medina, Brittany Sessoms, Michelle Littman, and Marcus Clarke; Out The Box Mime; Double-Anointed; and Hampton Roads Youth Poets. The event was sponsored by TowneBank, GEICO, The HILTEK Group, and hosted at Mount Sinai Church in Portsmouth, VA.

Orator Judges were: Angela Reddix, CEO of A. Reddix & Associates; Scott Taylor, Fmr. Navy Seal & Virginia War Memorial Board Member; Juanita Simmons,
Portsmouth Dept. of Social Services; and Rodger Alston, Member of Hampton Roads Chapter of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship, Inc.
